- NOTES FROM DAVID C HAWKINS - JANUARY 2006:
George moved to Bath with his family in the early 1930's.His fatherwas a gardener for Mr Dietz. He
went to school at City Of Bath boys school before joining the RAF asan apprentice mechanic.He
was invalided out due to rhematic fever and went to work at HorstmannGear Co Limited as a
machinist,retiring in 1980 as production manager with 45 yearsservice.He meet his wife at
Horstmann's when she joined at the beginning of WW2. George was abellringer for over 60 years
starting at St Saviours in 1935 and giving up due to arthritus atabout 80.
